Firestarter for Kodi Firestick and Fire TV

The Fire TV Home screen is a fantastic interface but if you use sideloaded apps like Kodi you have to go to Settings > Manage Installed Apps and then look for the app in order to launch it. This is not the most efficient way to enjoy a Media experience but unless your Fire TV is rooted, you won’t be able to make changes to the default user interface and still these changes are limited. There are other methods that take advantage of events created with the Llama app in order to launch Kodi intead of a sacrificial app like ClassicTV. To deal with these problem developer Sphinx02 has created a new Fire TV and Fire TV Stick launcher replacement called FireStarter.

When you press the Home button FireStarter will launch an interface that will let you chose either the default FireTV Home, Settings or any sideloaded app like Kodi.

The app have several options to change how it behaves. I have followed the xda-developers thread since the app was launched and it is really impressive to see the evolution of the app and how many user’s requests have been incorporated.

To install FireStarter, simply download the latest APK here and sideload it as you would any other app. One caveat is that you must keep ADB-Debugging enabled within the Fire TV’s settings in order for FireStarter to work correctly.  Once sideloaded, launch FireStarter from the Settings > Managed Installed Applications area and configure its settings.
